Seriously Write: Going to the Story: Research in the Field by Rebecca DeMarino

Rebecca DeMarino’s debut novel is out this month. Since it was inspired by the story of her ancestors, I asked her to share on the Seriously Write blog a little about her research and how we can make the most of ours.

What nuggets of history have you found, both near and far, and how did you get there?

As an author of heartwarming historical and contemporary romance, Sandra Ardoin engages readers with page-turning stories of love and faith. Rarely out of reach of a book, she's also an armchair sports enthusiast, country music listener, and seldom says no to eating out.

Even contemporary authors need to be meticulous in research. I wrote myself into a corner in one manuscript and needed a geologist to extract me. After that, I did my research prior to writing not as I went along.

I’m always coming up with little things I have to research along the way, Ane. But you’re definitely right. Research can affect the plot or add something interesting to it, and it’s best to know those things up front. Thanks!

P.S. – I’m excited to be joining you as a LPC author in October. Best wishes for your upcoming release!
