Trinity, book one in the A Breed Apart series, is my first experience with a Ronie Kendig novel. I can assure you, it won’t be my last. It’s filled with fast-paced action from the first page to (almost) the end—she needed a little space in there to wrap up the romance, after all.

Although this isn’t a story about a dog, the Belgian Malinois steals the reader’s heart with her bravery, loyalty, and love for Heath. He’s the only one she allows to handle her…until Darci comes along. Trinity and the intelligence officer hit it off immediately, which is good, because Heath and Darci hit it off immediately, too. 

The story involves a former Green Beret who must come to terms with the abrupt end of his career after suffering the effects of traumatic brain injury. After becoming part of an organization called A Breed Apart, Heath and Trinity are sent to Afghanistan to speak to the troops and show them, no matter what happens, they can overcome it and become stronger.

Darci, a Chinese-American, takes her intelligence agency job seriously…maybe a little too seriously. When her past and the present plans of a Chinese general’s son collide, Heath and Trinity go into action.

Although I had a little difficulty following the first few scenes, (some were a bit vague to me), it all makes sense as the story progresses. So, if you feel the same in the beginning, hang in there. You don’t want to miss this exciting story of redemption and second chances.
