Book Review: A Promise to Protect by Patricia Bradley

With two books out now, Patricia Bradley is becoming a new favorite for me in the genre of romantic suspense. Her latest, A Promise to Protect, is the second in her Logan Point series. You’ll find my review of Shadows of the Past here.

This story takes a minor character from the first book, Sheriff Ben Logan, and pairs him with Leigh Somerall, his college sweetheart. The romance thread is mostly predictable, but there’s a little twist I found interesting. 

Ben deals with an inability to forgive himself for an incident in which he had little control, while Leigh let’s her teenage mistakes dictate her actions in the present. Both characters have good depth, and I like the story question of “Do our goals determine our worth as a person?”

When her brother is killed and threats against Leigh escalate, working together becomes necessary, but it isn’t easy. Soon, it’s not clear who the threats are against, which keeps the reader turning the pages.

This is one of those books where I thought the identity of the antagonist was predictable, yet the author threw in just enough red herring characters to keep me doubting and reading.

In my opinion, it’s not quite as good as the first book in the series, but A Promise to Protect is well worth the time you’ll spend reading it.
