Book Review: At Bluebonnet Lake by Amanda Cabot

Her life is set to warp speed. His is slowing to a crawl.

But love has it’s own timing.

Okay, by now, you know I volunteer to read anything by Amanda Cabot. I’ve even gone so far as to read her new contemporary romance, At Bluebonnet Lake. This is the first in the Texas Crossroads series.

Kate Sherwood is on the fast track to a partnership in the marketing firm where she’s employed, but her ailing grandmother, the woman who raised her, wants to spend a month at Rainbow’s End, a resort in the Texas Hill Country. They arrive to a place that is not as represented in the brochure and find a repairman fixing the window of their cabin.

Greg Vange isn’t who Kate thinks he is and he’s not about to set her straight. He’s come to Rainbow’s End to decide God’s next plan for his life, not to meet a workaholic that reminds him of himself a short time earlier.

While we all have free will to make our choices, this story was a fine example of how God sometimes arranges those choices to accomplish His will. Both main characters deal with family issues – one who is a little too close, the other is too estranged. 

As with all the books I’ve read by this author, the writing is top-notch, and in this one, the reader gets two romances in one. Who can pass on that? I will say I thought the book seemed a tad long for the story, but the characters are realistic and ones to cheer on in their search for a way to save Rainbow’s End. 

The cover well-represents an actual scene in the book, one that romance lovers everywhere will find yummy. Actually, overall, At Bluebonnet Lake is yummy!

The first chapter preview for the next book, In Firefly Valley, is in the back. I’m looking forward to reading the story of Carmen’s daughter and Greg’s writer friend.
